Spring has sprung and I’ve been planting seeds for the future. This April feels like a transition to a new way of working, which is exciting. Here’s an update on some of the things I’ve been working on.
- My work with Create Central has been keeping me busy with a new Innovate:Challenge launched and about to be judged. Meanwhile I’ve been supporting the winners of the Birmingham 2022 Festival challenge to develop their projects.
- I’ve been doing some consultancy for The Space talking to the lovely folk at Civic Theatre in Dublin. Lots of creative digital goings on there, and I’m helping them to join the dots and get more from their exciting projects.

- I‘ve been preparing for the upcoming narrative VR project which I’ll be producing with Second Home Studios over the next 9-12 months. It’s going to be an epic piece of VR storytelling that hopefully will get out to festivals and audiences in 2023. The creative work had taken me to such interesting spaces and concepts, so I’m really excited to get production up and running properly next month.

- And I’m currently finalising content for the interactive graphic novel portal I’m building with artist Al Davison for Coventry City of Culture. His Muscle Memory project spans 25 years and it has been a fascinating journey getting to know him and put his work in a new context.
Elsewhere I’ve been reading about Valve’s design process on Half-Life: Alyx, checking out some narrative VR projects from this year’s SXSW, and investigating the possibilities in VR animation tools such as Quill, which has just returned to its original ownership from under the Oculus banner. I’m also off to visit BCU’s new STEAMhouse facility which looks very shiny indeed.
